In this class, working artist and WorkshopSF instructor extraordinaire Becca Schillinger will teach you how to confidently paint in acrylic using some of her favorite techniques! You will begin class with a series of short lessons and opportunities to experiment with different applications. Becca will demonstrate the contrast between thin washes and thicker applications of paint, then teach you how different acrylic mediums can alter the paint’s drying time, finish, and texture.

In the second half of class, you will develop your own unique composition, beginning with either a freehand graphite drawing or an image traced and transferred from our wide selection of reference materials. No drawing experience needed! We have TONS of traceable images to inspire you so you can choose your own painting adventure! Think landscapes or abstract, cocktails or cryptids, plus animals, flowers + florals, fantasy monsters, nature, tattoo design, and more!

Next, Becca will show you how to prepare your painting surface (paper or canvas) with a wash of color and introduce you to monochromatic underpainting using the grisaille technique. From there, you’ll start working on an acrylic painting of your own incorporating the techniques you’ve explored. And don’t worry… you’ll receive your own acrylic paint set to take home, so there’s no pressure to finish your painting in one sitting!

Supplies Needed: None. As part of this acrylic painting class, you will receive one Royal & Langnickel Acrylic Paint Set, palette paper, pre-gessoed canvas paper or board, painting postcards, and other necessary supplies to take home.

Instructor Bio: Becca Schillinger earned her BFA in drawing and painting from CCAC here in San Francisco, and was trained by drag queens in NYC on how to paint a fashion-week worthy face.  She is a resident DIY rockstar, offering her talents across a number of WorkshopSF classes.
