SUMMARY:Sewing 101: Hemming and Simple Repairs
DESCRIPTION:SEWING-REPAIR-S-1200X800-1SEWING-REPAIR-S-1200X800-2SEWING-REPAIR-S-1200X800-3SEWING-REPAIR-S-1200X800-4SEWING-REPAIR-S-1200X800-6SEWING-REPAIR-S-1200X800-7 \n\n \n \n \n \n\nKeeping your wardrobe in good shape starts with learning a few basic repairs and alterations. Maybe you need to shorten a pair of pants with a new hem\, fix a seam that has split open\, or sew a button back on. In this beginner-friendly class\, you will learn hand sewing techniques to keep your favorite clothes ready to wear! \n\n\n\nLessons covered in this class include: \n\n\n\n\n –  Hemming jeans\, stretch fabrics\, and delicate sheers\n –  Repairing seams\n –  Sewing on buttons\n –  Simple mending techniques\n \n\n\n\nDuring class\, you will practice using a selection of different fabrics. We also encourage you to bring a few items of your own to work on if you like. Your instructor will guide you through all hemming and repair techniques but will not directly mend your selected items. That’s where you come in!! Each student will gain a working knowledge of each hemming and repair techniques\, as well as the opportunity to work on 1-2 pieces from home. \n\n\n\nPlease Note: This is a beginner-friendly class that does not require prior hand or machine sewing knowledge. However\, this would not be a replacement for one of our other Sewing 101 or Sewing Bootcamp classes\, which give a more complete introduction to using sewing machines. Also\, this class will not cover replacing / repairing zippers\, as that’s a whole ‘nother thing!! \n\n\n\nSupplies Needed: All materials for practice are provided so you can try out several techniques on different types of fabric. You may bring a few pieces from home to practice on during class\, but this is not a requirement. \n\n\n\n \n\nInstructor Bio: Bea Byrne is a maker\, textile artist\, and instructor located in Oakland\, CA. Hailing originally from the UK\, Bea spent time working and teaching in both London and Tokyo before finally landing in the Bay Area. She offers workshops in many areas of the apparel arts (sewing\, quilting\, embroidery\, jewelry making\, and more)\, as well as consults with artists to help them increase their visibility online and to develop new and additional income streams related to their art. To see more of Bea’s wide range of work\, visit https://www.beabyrne.com/ and follow her insta at @beabyrneartist. \n\n\n \n\nThe rules / important stuff: We have a NO EXCEPTIONS 72 HOUR CANCELLATION policy – this includes cancellation\, re-books\, gift certificates\, moving classes\, etc. For more information on canceling a class\, please read our cancellation policy. All classes are 21+. If any questions\, please email us at info AT workshopsf DOT org. \n\nALL CLASSES TAKE PLACE AT WORKSHOP SF LOCATED AT 1310 HAIGHT STREET UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED ON THE TITLE AND LISTING.
