You will learn a variety of mark-making\, rendering\, and sketching techniques\, focusing on drawing methods that are fun\, easy\, accessible\, and require NO previous fine art experience. First\, Becca will discuss how to sketch what you see in real life\, offering instruction on line-contour drawing\, perspective and shading\, rendering specific shapes\, and more. She will share with you her favorite sketching tools\, as well as proper drawing positions. After practicing basic sketching techniques\, you’ll have the opportunity to use them as you draw a still life tableau. Featuring an inspired set of objects and dramatic lighting to facilitate some dynamic results\, this still life drawing session will allow you to freely sketch what you see\, while Becca offers individual advice on improving and expanding your sketching techniques! SUMMARY:Intro To Block Printing: Carve & Print Your Own Designs

It offers a simple method for creating your own graphics and patterns\, and thankfully only requires a handful of tools and supplies to produce your own prints. In our introduction to block printing workshop\, you will take your own graphic or pattern design\, then learn to transfer it to a Speedy Carve block to produce a linocut stamp. Next\, you will practice printing with water soluble ink and your new stamp as you print your image on a variety of surfaces\, including nice cardstock\, a Moleskine journal\, and even a cotton tote bag! Each student will make one medium block printing stamp and several prints featuring your block print designs to take home. \n\n\n\nSupplies Needed: Please come to class with a design for your stamp already drawn or printed out. Make sure your image is no bigger than 4″x6″. As part of this class\, you will receive one block for your stamp\, as well as one Moleskine Cahier Cardboard Journal\, one cotton tote\, several sheets of nice\, heavy card stock and practice paper for your prints. Class begins with core techniques\, such as the correct way to hold the pen\, maintain proper posture\, and perform essential warm-up exercises.  Surbhi will guide you through a series of lessons on basic strokes\, lowercase and uppercase letters\, numbers\, and words.  Students will also explore advanced techniques like 3D lettering to add dimension to their work\, as well as faux calligraphy\, which enables them to create calligraphy on any surface using various tools.  All of these new skills will be put to use as each student selects a word\, name\, or phrase to compose onto colorful watercolor paper for their final project! \n\n\n\nSupplies Needed: None. This photographic process is also known as sun printing because the sun can be utilized as the main light source for your exposures. Cyanotype printing is unique in that it allows you to use real life objects\, stencils\, drawings\, and even photo negatives to produce beautiful Prussian blueprints on both artist paper and fabric. \n\n\n\nWe will lead you through the cyanotype print making process from start to finish\, beginning with a discussion of the specific tools and supplies involved\, as well as options for prepping your cyanotype solution\, paper\, and fabric. You will then experiment with exposures by using different objects and image negatives to produce your unique prints. Lastly\, you will learn to rinse and dry out your prints\, so they are complete and ready to show! You will leave with at least 6-8 prints\, including fabric pieces and artist print paper\, as well as instructions and know-how to re-create this process at home. \n\n\n\nPLEASE NOTE: For evening classes\, we’ll be using UV lamps rather than the sun to expose your prints. For afternoon classes and events\, we’ll use a mix of both. \n\n\n\nSupplies Needed: None. We supply all ink\, paper\, and supplies to print. Please wear clothing that can take a hit of ink or two. We will have aprons for you to wear. We encourage you to bring objects from home\, such as leaves or small\, flat branches. You may bring a photo negative printed onto transparency paper. (A simple 8.5 x 11 transparency sheet works\, just make sure your image is printed black and white!) It offers a simple method for creating your own graphics and patterns\, and thankfully only requires a handful of tools and supplies to produce your own prints. In our introduction to block printing workshop\, you will take your own graphic or pattern design\, then learn to transfer it to a Speedy Carve block to produce a linocut stamp. Next\, you will practice printing with water soluble ink and your new stamp as you print your image on a variety of surfaces\, including nice cardstock\, a Moleskine journal\, and even a cotton tote bag! Each student will make one medium block printing stamp and several prints featuring your block print designs to take home. \n\n\n\nSupplies Needed: Please come to class with a design for your stamp already drawn or printed out. Make sure your image is no bigger than 4″x6″. Your subject can be a person or a pet – either will work! Becca’s step-by-step method will introduce you to photo transfer and sketching techniques that are fun\, accessible\, and require NO previous fine art experience.  \n\n\n\nFirst\, you will learn how to use tracing and transfer paper to transfer your image onto sketching paper. Next\, you will learn how to use shading to add depth to your sketch. Becca will walk you through sketching facial features and offer tips for nailing the eyes\, jawbone\, and other trickier details. You’ll learn techniques for adding different colors to your people and pet sketches\, as well as tips for final finishing touches. And if your custom portrait is not complete before the end of class\, Becca will guide you on how to finish the portrait at home. Portraits will range in size based on your reference photo\, and will be no bigger than 9″ x 11″. Each student will leave with one colored pencil portrait\, a short stack of sketching paper\, and a set of colored pencils to take home! \n\n\n\nPLEASE NOTE: You MUST bring a printed photo of your person or pet as your reference! Images must be clearly in focus\, and have a good amount of contrast between light and dark areas. If you are unsure if your photo will work\, please email us. Each student will receive two Tombow brush pens\, additional cardstock\, watercolor paper\, a workbook for practice at home\, and a handmade\, stylized name tag composed by Surbhi before or during class! \n\n\n\n \n \nInstructor Bio: Surbhi Aggarwal is a skilled calligrapher with over five years of experience mastering a wide range of scripts\, including Modern calligraphy\, Copperplate\, Spencerian\, and Italic. She has a special relationship with brush calligraphy due to its versatility and the joy it brings her in teaching. In addition to her work on paper\, she extends her craft to customizing items like engraving perfume bottles and personalizing wine or champagne flutes. With a deep passion for teaching\, she has guided over a thousand students in discovering the therapeutic and creative joys of calligraphy.
