Maybe you need to shorten a pair of pants with a new hem\, fix a seam that has split open\, or sew a button back on. In this beginner-friendly class\, you will learn hand sewing techniques to keep your favorite clothes ready to wear! \n\n\n\nLessons covered in this class include: \n\n\n\n\n –  Hemming jeans\, stretch fabrics\, and delicate sheers\n –  Repairing seams\n –  Sewing on buttons\n –  Simple mending techniques\n \n\n\n\nDuring class\, you will practice using a selection of different fabrics. We also encourage you to bring a few items of your own to work on if you like. Your instructor will guide you through all hemming and repair techniques but will not directly mend your selected items. That’s where you come in!! Each student will gain a working knowledge of each hemming and repair techniques\, as well as the opportunity to work on 1-2 pieces from home. \n\n\n\nPlease Note: This is a beginner-friendly class that does not require prior hand or machine sewing knowledge. However\, this would not be a replacement for one of our other Sewing 101 or Sewing Bootcamp classes\, which give a more complete introduction to using sewing machines. Also\, this class will not cover replacing / repairing zippers\, as that’s a whole ‘nother thing!! \n\n\n\nSupplies Needed: All materials for practice are provided so you can try out several techniques on different types of fabric. You may bring a few pieces from home to practice on during class\, but this is not a requirement. \n\n\n\n \n\nInstructor Bio: Bea Byrne is a maker\, textile artist\, and instructor located in Oakland\, CA. SUMMARY:Intro to Glass Mosaics: Learn to Make Colorful Indoor Mosaics
DESCRIPTION:GLASS-MOSAICS-S-1200X800-4GLASS-MOSAICS-S-1200X800-3GLASS-MOSAICS-S-1200X800-5GLASS-MOSAICS-S-1200X800-7GLASS-MOSAICS-S-1200X800-6 \n\n \n \n \n \n\nIn this class\, glass mosaic artist Elena Dubocanin will guide you through the basics of glass cutting and image assembling to create your own beautiful glass mosaic! First\, you will receive an overview of mosaic tools and safety\, followed by a tutorial on using glass cutters and following an image pattern to cut your glass. Next\, you’ll choose from a selection of designs such as citrus fruit\, mountain vistas\, colorful fish\, or an abstract pattern. Next\, you will cut your own glass pieces\, fit them together to create your image\, then adhere them to a wooden base with a strong bonding adhesive. Once your design is complete\, you will learn how to properly grout and finish your piece. \n\n\n\nThis workshop is perfect for beginners who are new to glass art. Each student will leave with their own glass mosaic\, as well as the know-how to keep making glass art at home! \n\n\n\nSupplies Needed: None. All patterns\, tools\, glass\, and other supplies will be provided. Each piece will measure around 8″ X 8″. \n\n\n\nPLEASE NOTE: Though this class is for beginners\, you WILL be working with sharp objects! Working with glass is a lot of fun\, risky at times\, but a perfectly safe craft to practice when proper safety measures are followed. Please wear close-toe shoes and clothing that you don’t mind getting a little dirty. For your safety and protection\, we provide aprons\, latex gloves\, goggles\, and a first aid kit in case of an emergency. \n\n\n\n \n \nInstructor Bio: Elena Dubocanin has been creating glass mosaics for 8+ years\, cultivating a more serious interest over the last five years. Getting her start using scrap glass discarded by other glass artists and repurposing thrifted wooden cutting boards\, tables\, and frames\, Elena now produces custom glass mosaics of all shapes and sizes and is excited to share her experience\, know-how\, and love of glass mosaic art with others. To see Elena’s work\, process\, and inspirations\, visit her on Instagram at @elenamosaics. \n\n\n \n \nThe rules / important stuff: We have a NO EXCEPTIONS 72 HOUR CANCELLATION policy – this includes cancellation\, re-books\, gift certificates\, moving classes\, etc. For more information on canceling a class\, please read our cancellation policy. SUMMARY:Sashiko Mending: Intro To Japanese Embroidery For Decoration And Repair
DESCRIPTION:SASHIKO-S-1200x800-01SASHIKO-S-1200x800-05SASHIKO-S-1200x800-08SASHIKO-L-1200x800-04SASHIKO-L-1200x800-06SASHIKO-L-1200x800-07SASHIKO-S-1200x800-11 \n\n \n \n \n \n\nIn our Sashiko Mending class\, you will learn about this beautiful\, ancient Japanese embroidery technique which was originally developed to strengthen quilts and kimonos\, repair holes\, and lengthen the life of textiles. Sashiko\, which translates to “little stabs”\, traditionally uses white cotton thread on dark blue indigo-dyed fabric. A single running stitch is used to create lovely geometric patterns that can be used to decorate fabric or reinforce ripped denim\, sewn by hand. You will learn how to properly execute this running stitch\, and transfer geometric designs onto indigo-dyed linen. Our instructor will guide you in the creation of your own sashiko design sampler. Once everyone has the technique down\, you will learn how to apply this sashiko technique to your ripped jeans in order to repair and reinforce areas where the denim has torn or frayed. \n\n\n\nSupplies Needed: None! All fabric\, thread\, and sashiko needles are provided for you to keep. For extra credit\, we strongly encourage you to bring a pair of ripped jeans to repair! \n \nInstructor Bio: Fueled by a long time desire to avoid jeans shopping at any cost\, WorkshopSF sewing instructor and DIY Jack of All Trades Hayley learned the art of sashiko in order to keep her jeans in rotation for what some have called “too long”. She now has become addicted to sashiko mending\, and swears she owns at least one pair of jeans somewhere that lack rips or sashiko. Of course\, no one has ever seen them… Check out photos of her sashiko magic on Insta at @pretzelegant_sashiko.  \n \nThe rules / important stuff: We have a NO EXCEPTIONS 72 HOUR CANCELLATION policy – this includes cancellation\, re-books\, gift certificates\, moving classes\, etc. For more information on canceling a class\, please read our cancellation policy. If you’re new to Jesmonite\, it’s a durable\, lightweight casting material used for everything from home decor to jewelry and sculpture. It’s similar to concrete\, plaster\, or resin\, but benefits over these materials in that it has a short curing time\, takes on bright colors with only a small amount of pigment\, and is water-based\, solvent-free\, and free of volatile organic compounds (VOCs)\, making it safer to work with and no toxic fumes! And it’s a lot of fun to use! \nIn this beginner casting workshop\, you’ll learn to mix\, pour\, and customize Jesmonite to create two houseware objects of your choice\, such as trays\, coasters\, planters\, or dishes\, using professional silicone molds. You’ll explore how to incorporate pigments and terrazzo-style chips for different surface effects\, work in two pouring rounds\, and\, once your pieces have hardened\, de-mold and sand them for a finished look. We’ll also cover sourcing tips\, including where to buy Jesmonite\, molds\, pigments\, and tools. Each student will leave with two finished Jesmonite pieces\, as well as the know-how to keep making more! \nSupplies Needed: None. All tools and supplies will be provided. Make sure to wear something that you don’t mind getting a little messy in. We will also have aprons to protect your clothing. Also\, we suggest that you bring a tote or bag to carry home you items\, but that’s completely optional. \nInstructor Bio: Stella Hoffman is from the UK and currently resides in the Castro Valley. She has been working with Jesmonite for the past five years\, designing an array of small to medium-sized home goods. Drawn to its eco-friendliness and incredible potential to create vibrant and beautiful pieces\, Stella now focuses exclusively on Jesmonite as her go-to design material for her creative work. She can’t wait to share her expertise and watch you also discover the joy of creating with Jesmonite!
