Next\, you’ll choose from a selection of designs such as citrus fruit\, mountain vistas\, colorful fish\, or an abstract pattern. Sashiko\, which translates to “little stabs”\, traditionally uses white cotton thread on dark blue indigo-dyed fabric. A single running stitch is used to create lovely geometric patterns that can be used to decorate fabric or reinforce ripped denim\, sewn by hand. You will learn how to properly execute this running stitch\, and transfer geometric designs onto indigo-dyed linen. Our instructor will guide you in the creation of your own sashiko design sampler. Once everyone has the technique down\, you will learn how to apply this sashiko technique to your ripped jeans in order to repair and reinforce areas where the denim has torn or frayed. \n\n\n\nSupplies Needed: None! In this beginner-friendly class\, you will learn the basics of using a sewing machine (no prior sewing experience required!) and we’ll walk you through how to design\, cut\, and sew a pillowcase! Choose from an array of fabrics to customize your design. Each pillow measures 18″ x 18″\, and includes a polished looking fold over backing\, so no difficult zippers or buttons are required. You will leave with one square\, geometric pillow. This is a stand alone class\, so feel free to take our Sewing Bootcamp or other sewing classes afterwards to continue honing your craft! \n\n\n\nSome specific skills learned in this class include:– Learning basic sewing machine settings and usage– Industry standards for stitch lengths (garments vs. home goods)– Following an existing pattern and measuring for your own– AND…you’ll even dip your toe into a little quilting while you’re at it! \n\n\n\nSupplies Needed: None. We supply all fabric\, pillow inserts\, and the machines. You will be using a simple Janome 2212\, which is great for learning and skills can easily transfer to other machines. It is a great\, simple first project that won’t terrify you! All of these are handy sewing skills for basic garment construction\, bag making\, and a bunch of other projects! First\, you will receive an overview of mosaic tools and safety\, followed by a tutorial on using glass cutters and following an image pattern to cut your glass. Next\, you’ll choose from a selection of designs such as citrus fruit\, mountain vistas\, colorful fish\, or an abstract pattern. Next\, you will cut your own glass pieces\, fit them together to create your image\, then adhere them to a wooden base with a strong bonding adhesive. Once your design is complete\, you will learn how to properly grout and finish your piece. \n\n\n\nThis workshop is perfect for beginners who are new to glass art. Each student will leave with their own glass mosaic\, as well as the know-how to keep making glass art at home! \n\n\n\nSupplies Needed: None. All patterns\, tools\, glass\, and other supplies will be provided. Each piece will measure around 8″ X 8″. \n\n\n\nPLEASE NOTE: Though this class is for beginners\, you WILL be working with sharp objects! Working with glass is a lot of fun\, risky at times\, but a perfectly safe craft to practice when proper safety measures are followed. Please wear close-toe shoes and clothing that you don’t mind getting a little dirty.
