If you’re new to Jesmonite\, it’s a durable\, lightweight casting material used for everything from home decor to jewelry and sculpture. It’s similar to concrete\, plaster\, or resin\, but benefits over these materials in that it has a short curing time\, takes on bright colors with only a small amount of pigment\, and is water-based\, solvent-free\, and free of volatile organic compounds (VOCs)\, making it safer to work with and no toxic fumes! And it’s a lot of fun to use! \nIn this beginner casting workshop\, you’ll learn to mix\, pour\, and customize Jesmonite to create two houseware objects of your choice\, such as trays\, coasters\, planters\, or dishes\, using professional silicone molds. You’ll explore how to incorporate pigments and terrazzo-style chips for different surface effects\, work in two pouring rounds\, and\, once your pieces have hardened\, de-mold and sand them for a finished look. We’ll also cover sourcing tips\, including where to buy Jesmonite\, molds\, pigments\, and tools. Each student will leave with two finished Jesmonite pieces\, as well as the know-how to keep making more! \nSupplies Needed: None. All tools and supplies will be provided. Make sure to wear something that you don’t mind getting a little messy in. We will also have aprons to protect your clothing. Also\, we suggest that you bring a tote or bag to carry home you items\, but that’s completely optional. \nInstructor Bio: Stella Hoffman is from the UK and currently resides in the Castro Valley. She has been working with Jesmonite for the past five years\, designing an array of small to medium-sized home goods. Drawn to its eco-friendliness and incredible potential to create vibrant and beautiful pieces\, Stella now focuses exclusively on Jesmonite as her go-to design material for her creative work. She can’t wait to share her expertise and watch you also discover the joy of creating with Jesmonite!
