Intro to Darning: Learn to Repair Your Favorite Clothing and Knitwear

$58Bust a hole in your lucky socks? Have a rip in the only jeans that fit you PERFECTLY? Did moths get into your favorite knit hat or beanie? Darning can give new life to your knitwear, denim, cotton, canvas, linen, and other common textiles. And in this beginner friendly darning class, you will learn how to fix tears, patch up holes, and cover up stains using a simple, unique style of repair.
You will learn how to properly set up and use a darning loom, sew the vertical warp threads, and weave the horizontal weft threads to create a sturdy, decorative patch. You will also learn how to adapt the technique for stretchy knits and non-stretch fabric. We will begin by practicing on provided fabric. Once you feel comfortable with the technique, you’ll have the option to practice your darning techniques on an item of your own. You’ll leave with the darning tools and foundational skills keep all your closet favorites in heavy rotation!!
Supplies Needed: None! Practice fabric, five skeins of embroidery floss, a darning loom, needle, and beeswax are provided for you to take home. We strongly encourage you to bring an item to repair. Knitwear such as socks, sweaters, or scarves will be easiest for beginners.
Instructor Bio: Hayley has been sewing since the tender age of three. A jack of all trades, she has extensive experience with sewing, past works include upholstery, stuffed animals, home goods, clothing, alterations and repairs, tailoring, bags, and just about anything else you can think of!
