In this beginner-friendly felting workshop, professional multimedia artist Risa Culbertson will teach you the fundamentals of needle felting and hard launch your adventure into the world of fiber arts!

Risa will focus on two essential felting techniques: wool on wool and needle felting over a form. You’ll have a chance to practice both techniques as you create your own felted fish in the colors and style of your choosing. Risa will also show you how to assemble a paper “tin” using pre-cut pieces that you can mix and match to create a customized container for your finished fish. Each student will take home one completed felted fish and tin project, along with a starter kit of needles, wool, and other felting supplies to keep experimenting at home!

Supplies Needed: None. As part of this class, you will receive one needle felting kit that includes needles, wool, and other felting supplies to take home, as well as the pre-cut paper pieces needed to create your tin.

Instructor Bio: Risa Iwasaki Culbertson is a multimedia artist, illustrator, and owner of Papa Llama; a playful stationery company based out of San Francisco.  She is experienced in a wide variety of mediums including fiber arts, paper, sculpting, illustration, stop-motion animation and more. Specializing in wacky, whimsical, and colorful pieces to brighten up the gloomiest of days, her work is all about being playful as a way to recharge the creative spirit.  Her work can be found in stores nationwide through her stationery company, Papa Llama, galleries, workshops, immersive installation in Dallas, TX, as well as The Neighborhood Appreciation Cards with Chronicle Books.
